Date: Location: Walk Leader: Participants: Distance: Parking: Lunch: | 18th September Rushmore Rob Rob, Clive, Peter, Ray. 6.1 miles Golf club car park At the golf club. Excellent all day breakfasts, chilli noodles and the best gammon steak I’ve had for years ★★★. Greatly improved since our first visit. |
A pleasant, warm and sunny day with a few clouds that made the sky interesting. From the car park we headed north along the road that leads to the two attractive houses at the entrance to the golf club. There are some good views over the valley looking west. We then turned west into the open countryside and then into Chase Woods where we crossed some of the paths that we had seen on Ray's walk on 28th August. The beech avenue still looked terrific. The area around Great Shaftesbury Coppice seemed to be an excellent pheasant breeding ground and they wandered along the path just in front of us for about 500 yards. The route was not that well marked between Hunt Corner Farm and Withywind Cottage but that did not cause too many problems and it was nice to see more wild chicory in the fields.
