Looking Towards Hambledon Hill From The Bottom Of West Hill
We have walked from here up to the top of Hodd Hill and Hambledon Hill but today we have opted for a much flatter route which keeps Hambledon Hill in view for much of the time.
We were forced to divert from the marked footpath on quite a few occasions either because we couldn't find the path, it was overgrown or there were crops growing.  Just in case you can't read the sign it says "Landowners Welcome Caring Walkers".

Caring Ramblers Are Pleased

The path from the road to Pegg's Farm didn't look as if anyone had used it for some time but once there we had a very nice chat with the owners having stopped to admire their lovely new calves.  After making the turn back towards the south we stopped and had our break sitting in one of their fields on a felled oak tree.
Reaching the road again and following the path in the area of The Nursery we found ourselves walking right in front of a group of houses but this was definitely the right way.  There was a path sign through a gate at the end of this little stretch but it was really overgrown, with lots of nettles, so we went through a gate into the field next to this and this took us along a much more pleasant route.
We walked through the attractive grounds of Clayesmore School (Boarding Fees £11,910 and
Day Fees £8,740 a term) but found it difficult to spot the way out.  We were eventually successful and having just passed the Talbot thought it might be nice to stop there for lunch.  The walk back was fruitless as a sign outside said NO FOOD.  Shame we missed it earlier!  Never mind it was not that far back to the car and the Coach and Horses is always great value for money.  Two decent meals for £9.95 - what a bargain.
