Drusilla's Inn
This walk starts and finishes at Drusilla’s where they were quite happy for us to park for our walk before returning for lunch.  It’s a very attractive thatched farmhouse with good food and pleasant service.

Going out of the corner of the car park by the road a track leads round the back of the inn to Haythorne and Horton, where you can look back through the gates at the well tended Vineyard.  We stopped to look in, the unusually L shaped, St Wolfrida’s Church in Horton.  Well worth a visit.

As we crossed the road we entered an area with numerous raped fields, some of them just starting to produce unripened seed pods.  We then turned to head towards Horton Tower.  This was built in 1750 and once said to be the tallest non-religious building in Britain.  It’s rather a shame to see it in its present state of disrepair but it has provided a convenient place for mobile phone masts!
The original plan was to take the path across to Holt Wood but we were too busy talking and soon found ourselves at the edge of Ferndown Forest.  We decided to carry on around the edge of Ferndown Forest, through Queens Copse and then loop around through Holt Forest.  The paths were not particularly good and were quite difficult to follow in some places.  Nevertheless we eventually reached the edge of the lakes from where it was easy to find our way back to Drusilla’s.
