This was a very good walk on a perfect day for walkers.  We started on the track that passes St Edwards Church intending to have look inside on our return but unfortunately it was all locked up.  It is rather an interesting church and you can read about it at:

Although not part of the plan we took a little detour, on a well defined path, through Cowpound Wood.  This walk through the woods was so pleasant that we went further than planned and headed along the very curved path through Sares Wood.  This is however not quite as shown on the map.  Here we spotted quite a lot of puff balls of various sizes and shapes.

There was a great scarcity of places to sit so we continued on to Affpuddle where we found a lovely place just on the wall by St Laurence’s Church.  It must have been a good spot because we lingered there for thirty minutes. There was a great scarcity of places to sit so we continued on to Affpuddle where we found a lovely place just on the wall by St Laurence’s Church.  It must have been a good spot because we lingered there for thirty minutes.

It looks like a long stretch of road from Affpuddle to Southover House but it is not busy and there is a lot to see.  Our first surprise was a mass of hops growing in the hedge beside the road and then we stopped briefly to check on the anglers’ success at Lawrence’s Farm trout fishing lake.  Most of them seem to have been quite successful.

Before we started I had told Ray that this should be a “blackberry walk”.  Well we really struck lucky and found some prolific bushes that enables us to fill an ice cream box and a large plastic bag.  These were subsequently turned into a beautifully rich coloured sauce!  The only disappointment was the quantity of the sauce!  We left plenty of berries for anyone else who happened to pass this way.  Well we had an appointment with a plate of food from the Toby Carvery at Fleetsbridge.
