This was a very good walk on a perfect day for walkers. We started on the track that passes St Edwards Church intending to have look inside on our return but unfortunately it was all locked up. It is rather an interesting church and you can read about it at: http://saintedwardsorthodoxdorset.org Although not part of the plan we took a little detour, on a well defined path, through Cowpound Wood. This walk through the woods was so pleasant that we went further than planned and headed along the very curved path through Sares Wood. This is however not quite as shown on the map. Here we spotted quite a lot of puff balls of various sizes and shapes. |
It looks like a long stretch of road from Affpuddle to Southover House but it is not busy and there is a lot to see. Our first surprise was a mass of hops growing in the hedge beside the road and then we stopped briefly to check on the anglers’ success at Lawrence’s Farm trout fishing lake. Most of them seem to have been quite successful.
