We seem to have a bit of a memory problem regarding this walk and unfortunately I forgot to record a track log.  The route shown below is therefore a best guess and perhaps the leader can suggest some amendments when he has had a look at his records?
It was a pretty damp day  and we walked through some muddy fields and rather boggy woodland.  There were some nice bright red elf caps on a few pieces of rotten wood beside the road at one point.  We paid a visit to the church of St Nicholas just outside Moreton village.  It is well worth a visit to see the splendid windows designed by Sir Lawrence Whistler.

At the Golf Club
At the golf club ★★
Towards the end of this walk the rain came in buckets and one of the strongest memories is sitting in the groundsman's machinery shed getting out of some very wet walking gear.  Other than that it was a very pleasant walk.  We cut a little bit off, when the rain came, by heading across the golf course but there were not many players out by then.
The lunch was a definite improvement over our first one at the golf club when the menu was very restricted.

A small lay-by just off the A354 leading to Sparrowbush Farm
ST8728 0315

In spite of a chilly start to the day the adventure centre at Grocombe Farm was very busy with quad bikes.  The track towards Charlton Down and East Down had been really chewed up by horses and the going was tricky.  Field edges came in handy.  Excellent views from the top of Charlton Down across the open farm land.  An easy route to follow and well marked.  There is a short  somewhat unnerving stretch along the busy  A354, to return to the car, just after South Lodge and the path through the V Plantation is not accessible until half way along the wood.

The Snake Catcher Brockenhurst
It seemed to be a good idea, after lots of rain, to stick to some relatively dry tracks and this walk does this by sticking to the cycle tracks in the New Forest near Brockenhurst.  This does not make for the most interesting of walks but does prevent soggy boots.

On grass near the church.  Space for two or three cars.

Just by Manor Farm is a notice saying “Your GPS is taking you the wrong way”.  This is intended for people in cars.  A few have ignored it and come to grief.  Walkers can carry on!  A bit of a climb to the top of Pentridge Hill but worth it for the views.
