There is a decent size car park by the old mill and this provides a pleasant start to this walk.
We walked this route in September 2010 and enjoyed a bright sunny day. There was very little wind and almost no ripples on the river. There was an abundance of berries on the trees and bushes including sloes, blackberries and hawthorn which were all looking splendid.
It is well worth stopping to admire the Manor House at Hinton St Mary, a very impressive property once owned by the nuns of Shaftesbury Abbey.
The White Horse Inn at Hinton St Mary is a very traditional and friendly local pub. We enjoyed a good lunch and the landlady kindly offered to fill our water bottles.
This is a great area for walking and I had a lot of difficulty selecting which of Ray's numerous routes around this area I should include on the website.
